RECAP!!!
What is the presentation of Ian all about?
Whathave you learned from his
presentation?
What are the different parts of the
Digestive System? What is it’s function?
MY EXPECTATIONS FOR THIS DAY
1.
Breaks down food to smaller pieces or portions.
(MOUTH)
2.
Absorbs nutrients into the bloodstream and transfers
nutrients to the cells to produce energy.(LIVER)
3.
Aids in the elimination process of undigested food.
(RECTUM)
4. Turns food you eat into energy.
5. Packs residue for waste disposal.
6. Intake of water-keeps the body hydrated.
Parts and accessories of the digestive system and
its function
MOUTH- Is the beginning of
the digestive system ,and,
in fact, digestion starts
here before you even take
the first bite of a meal. It
is the one who breaks down
the food into smaller
portions.
SALIVARY GLANDS- Is
the one who helps the
mouth to break down
the food. Saliva
moistens and
lubricates the food, so
it will be easier to
chew.
PHARYNX- Is the
portion of the
digestive tract that
receives the food
from your mouth,
or it transports the
food from the
mouth to the
esophagus.
ESOPHAGUS- A
25cm tube in
which carries
food to the
stomach or
transports food
it receives from
the pharynx to
the stomach.
STOMACH- Is a sac-like
organ with strong muscular
walls, it serves as the mixer
and grinder of food. The
stomach secretes acid and
powerful enzymes that
continue the process of
breaking the food down and
changing it to a consistency
of liquid or paste.
LIVER- Breaks down
and builds up many
biological molecules,
stores vitamins and
iron, and bile aids in
digestion
PANCREAS- Hormones
regulate blood glucus
levels, bicarbonates
neutralize stomach
acid, trypsin and
chymotrypsin digest
proteins, amylase
digest polysaccharides,
and lipades digest
liquids.
SMALL INTESTINE-
Complete
digestion, mucus
protects gut wall,
absorbs nutrients
and moist water,
peptidase digests
proteins, sucrose
digests sugars,
amylase digests
polysaccharides.
LARGE INTESTINE-
Reabsorbs the water
and ions, forms and
stores feces.Highly
specialized organ that
is responsible for
processing waste so
that defecation
(excretion of waste) is
easy and convenient
RECTUM- Is an 8 inch
chamber that connects
the colon to the anus.
It receives stool from
the colon/large
intestine, it lets the
person know there is
stool needed to
evacuate, and it holds
the stool until it
evacuates.
ANUS- It consists
of the muscles
that lines the
pelvis (pelvis floor
muscles) and 2
other muscles
called anal
sphinchers
(internal and
external)
Now I have a video for information and some
description of the Functions of Parts in the
Digestive System
This is how the Digestive System looks like.
