Community in
the Philippines
What is LGBTQ+ ?
LGBTQ+ stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer,
and the “+” symbol which represents other sexual identities
including Pansexual, Asexual, Omnisexual, and all the other
sexualities, sexes, and genders that aren’t mentioned.

LGBT Community
The LGBT Community also referred to as a gay community, is a
loosely defined grouping of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, LGBT
organizations, and subcultures united by a common culture and
social movements. These communities generally celebrate pride,
diversity, individuality and sexuality.
Anti-discrimination bill fails to hurdle Congress

It's back to square one for the bill prohibiting discrimination on the
basis of sexual orientation, gender identity or expression -- after the Senate
failed to tackle the longest-running bill in the period of interpellations in
the upper chamber at the end of the 17th Congress session.

The bill eyes protection for Filipino members of the lesbian, gay,
bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning (LGBTQ+) community against sex-
and gender-based discrimination.

The House version of the bill penalizes those who commit

discriminatory acts against LGBTQ+ Filipinos: a fine of not less than
₱100,000 but not more than ₱500,000, or imprisonment of not less than
one year but not more than six years or both, depending on the court's
decision.

‘Tolerated, but not accepted’: Filipino LGBTQ+ speak up
vs. discrimination

MANILA, Philippines – The Filipino LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual,

transgender, and queer) community's struggle for acceptance is far from over.

On Saturday, June 8, MovePH, Rappler's civic engagement arm, conducted

the second online conversation for Pride month 2019, asking the LGBTQ+
community to recount times when they were discriminated against for their
gender.

'Always be a failure‘

Abandonment and being neglected by family members are typical

narratives for the LGBTQ+.

Coming out as part of the LGBTQ+ community isn't easy under any
circumstance. But it's extra difficult for those who are afraid of how their family
would react.
