Code of Ethics for

Professional Teachers
Republic Act No. 7836
July 25, 1994
Article 1
 Scope and Limitations
1. All educational institutions shall offer
quality education for all Filipino citizens.
2. This code shall apply to all teachers in
the Philippines including persons
performing supervisory and / or
administrative functions.
Article 2
 The Teacher and the State
1. Each teacher is a trustee of the cultural
and educational heritage of the nation.
2. He / she is under obligation to transmit
to the learner such heritage as well as to
elevate national morality, promote
national pride, cultivate love of country,
instill allegiance to the Constitution and
respect for duly constituted authorities.
Article 3
 The Teacher and the Community
1. The teacher as:
1.1 an intellectual leader, initiator,
implementor of projects
1.2 a counselor
1.3 an achiever who shall maintain
harmonious and pleasant personal &
official relations with other professionals,
government officials in the community.
Article 4
 The Teacher and the Profession
1. The teacher shall maintain the nobility
and dignity of the teaching profession by
pursuing professional growth to improve
efficiency, competency, and productivity
nationally and internationally.
Article 5
 The Teacher and the Teaching
Community
1. Emphasizes that the teacher shall be
imbued with the spirit of professional
loyalty, mutual confidence and faith in
one another, self – sacrifice for the
common good, and full cooperation with
colleagues.
Article 6
 The Teacher and the Higher Authorities
in the Profession
1. It is the duty of every teacher to make
an honest effort to understand and
support the policies of the school
administration.
Article 7
 School officials, Teachers, and other
Personnel
1. All school officials, teachers, and
personnel shall show professional
courtesy, helpfulness, and sympathy to
one another; and
2. Exhibit cooperative responsibility to
formulate changes for the system at all
levels.
Article 8
 The Teacher and the Learners
1. Discuss the rights and duties of a
teacher to the learners;
2. That the first and foremost concern of
the teacher is the recognition of the
interest and welfare of the students.
3. Deals with the students importantly and
justly.
Article 9
 The Teacher and the Parents
1. The teacher shall:
1.1 Establish and maintain cordial relations with
the parents;
1.2 Inform them of the progress of their
children
1.3 Seek their cooperation for their proper
guidance; and
1.4 Hear parents’ complaints with sympathy and
undestanding.
Article 10
 The Teacher as a Person
1. The teacher shall maintain a dignified
personality whether in school, in the
home, or elsewhere which could serve as
a model worthy of emulation by learners,
peers, and all others.
