 Behavioral and Community Health Unit
• Studies the cultural and behavioral factors that influence health in order to
develop innovative methods for prevention and treatment.
• It aims to train and cultivate behavioral and community health professionals
who understand the theory and practice of public health and are committed to
applying this knowledge to tackle current and emerging public health issues.
• Current research aims: These include developing cancer prevention programs
in faith-based communities in Bauchi, preventing and controlling smoking and
tobacco use in ATBU, addressing health needs of IDPs etc

Epidemiology and Biostatistics
• Using epidemiologic methods to investigate social and
behavioral determinants of health, with emphasis on both
communicable and non-communicable diseases eg:
cardiovascular disease, obesity, HIV/STIs, and cancer.
• Additional areas of focus include OVCs, MCH, and community-
based interventions

Family Health Unit
• Advances the concept of family well-being as the
foundation for a healthy society by exploring issues such
as parenting and couple relationships; poverty, domestic
violence, and family finance; mental health, maternal and
child health, and disparities; and family and health policy.
• This unit aims to promotes individual, family and
community strategies to improve the public’s health
through research, clinical practice, family advocacy and
public policy analysis in Bauchi state and the country as a
whole

Health Policy and Management
• This unit focuses on eliminating disparities in access to
health care, improving its delivery and management,
creating effective health services policy and financing
public health services delivery and providing services
where they are needed most.
• The unit seeks to prepare students for research and
careers in areas of health services delivery and
administration related to these critical issues
