Predictibility: culture shock

These studies explain that predictability reduces uncertainty, thereby
reducing anxiety. However,these studies have often confounded general
predictability with the issue of when.

There is little empirical evidence to conclude that general predictibility

of negatively-perceived event will make these preferred over
unpredictable ones.
Learned helplessness:
predictability with no control
One study about predictability and human stress indentified two types
of people: those who one information about negative events to come,
and those who do not.
Language minority students in bilingual classrooms may also experience
a sense of helplessness with increased awareness of target cultural
values which appear inaccess ible to them. In bilingual classroom may
experience a sense of learned helplessness in target cultural
situations,real or simulated.
