What Is Crack?
 Crack cocaine is a highly addictive and powerful
stimulant that is derived from powdered cocaine
using a simple conversion process. It is abused
because it produces an immediate high and because
it is easy and inexpensive to produce.
    
Forms of Crack
 Crack typically is  Cocaine and crack are
available as rocks. sometimes confused
Crack rocks are white as two different drugs
(or off-white) and when in fact they are
vary in size and shape. the same drug in
different forms.

How is it Used?
 Crack is nearly always
smoked. Smoking
crack cocaine delivers
large quantities of the
drug to the lungs,
producing an
immediate and intense
euphoric effect.
Immediate Effects
 Short-term effects of
cocaine/crack include
constricted peripheral
blood vessels, dilated
pupils, increased
temperature, heart rate,
blood pressure,
insomnia, loss of
appetite, feelings of
restlessness, irritability,
and anxiety.
 Duration of cocaine's
immediate euphoric
effects, which include
energy, reduced
fatigue, and mental
clarity, depends on
how it is used. The
faster the absorption,
the more intense the
high.
Long Term Effects
 High doses of cocaine and/or prolonged use can
trigger paranoia. Smoking crack cocaine can
produce a particularly aggressive paranoid behavior
in users. When addicted individuals stop using
cocaine, they often become depressed. Prolonged
cocaine snorting can result in ulceration of the
mucous membrane of the nose.
What’s The Price?
 Cocaine is typically sold by weight, crack by the
rock. A single rock of crack-cocaine can cost as
little as $5 or as much as $20, but a great deal is
sold at around $10 a rock. Price varies with size of
the rock, quality, availability and region. A gram of
cocaine costs between $40 and $80, though cocaine
is sold at higher and lower prices.
History
 There are currently no medical uses of the drug.
Cocaine was first synthesized in pure form by
Albert Niemann. In 1860, he extracted pure cocaine
powder from the leaves of the cocoa plant. Soon
after it was isolated, cocaine was used to try to cure
almost all the illnesses that were known to man.
Medical use has been largely restricted to producing
local anesthesia. It wasn't long after the isolation of
pure cocaine until people became aware of the
addictive potential of the drug.
Laws
 State drug laws have
distinct penalties for both
the possession and the sale
of crack cocaine. For crack
cocaine possession, most
states do not have quantity
requirements, but do
require increased penalties
for possession of over 25
grams or more of crack
cocaine.
