Content :

1. Introduction
2. South Sumatera Regional Geologic
Setting
3. Geology of Baturaja Area
4. Outcrops Report
5. Remarks
Introduction
Recent year :
State of the art of technology leads geoscientist
to utilize electric data in interpreting subsurface
structure and rock characters.

Recognition of rocks based on cutting samples and

core samples

Rare opportunity to observe the visualization of

whole body of rocks
Introduction
Field Trip :
Good opportunity for geoscientist to see an actual
visualization of rock formations

Baturaja area is a right place to observe South

Sumatera Stratigraphic Section

Improved geoscientist’s knowledge of the

Stratigraphy of South Sumatera
Geology of Baturaja Area

South Sumatera Regional Geologic Setting

Tertiary tectonic evolution :

 Pre Tertiary development
 Early Tertiary development
 Late Tertiary development
 Plio-Pleistocene
Early Tertiary Development

Upper picture : Rifting Phase

During Eocene – Oligocene

period, South Sumatera basin was
rifted then followed by deposition
of Lemat Fm and overlaying
Benakat Shale.

Lower picture : Post-Rifting

Transgression Phase

During Oligocene-Miocene
period, South Sumatera basin was
deposited by GRM and TAF
followed by marine transgression
with clastic source from Sunda
Craton.
Late Tertiary Development

Upper picture:
Subsidence Phase
In middle Miocene time,
Subsidence continued and
Carbonate reefs were
drowned as sea level rose.

Lower Picture :
Syn-Orogenic Phase
Increased subduction and
uplift of the B.Barisan
range.depositing sands of
the Airbenakat Fm during
Middle Miocene and
Muara Enim Fm. In
Pliocene.
South Sumatra Regional Geologic Setting

• Present day SS Basinal

area consists of several
basin ,

• The Palembang Back-arc

basin

• The Bengkulu Fore-arc

basin.

Remarks :

1. Gritsand member (GRM).

2. Basically the Baturaja Fm is not a Real

Reef, that there is no reef in South

Sumatra Basin.

3. Telisa Sand.
