USE: to talk about a completed action that happened


before another PAST action

Past Perfect Continuous
We’d been playing tennis for about a half an hour before it
started to rain.

USE:actions or situations which had continued up to the past


moment that we are thinking about, or shortly before it

I was so tired when I got home last night. I had been working
hard all day.

USE: an event that explains a past situation
