DEPED MANDATE
The Department of Education (DepEd) formulates,
implements, and coordinates policies, plans, programs
and projects in the areas of formal and non-formal
basic education. It supervises all elementary and
secondary education institutions, including alternative
learning systems, both public and private; and provides
for the establishment and maintenance of a complete,
adequate, and integrated system of basic education
relevant to the goals of national development.

academic, economist and civil
servant who is the incumbent

Philippines under President
Rodrigo Duterte.

ABOUT CHED
The Commission on Higher Education (Filipino:
Komisyon sa Mas Mataas na
Edukasyon/Komisyon sa Lalong Mataas na
Edukasyon) of the Philippines, abbreviated as
CHED. It covers both public and private higher
education institutions as well as degree-
granting programs in all post-secondary
educational institutions in the country.
ABOUT THE COMMISIONER
ALDRIN A. DARILAG finished
his PhD in Education at the De
La Salle University-Manila where
he also earned units for PhD in
Science Education, and took his
Master of Education. He also
earned a Master of Science in
Medical Technology at the
University of Santo Tomas. The
multi-degree holder also finished
baccalaureate degrees in nursing
and medical technology.
STATE UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES
State universities and colleges (SUCs)
refers to any public institution of higher
learning that was created by an Act
passed by the Congress of the Philippines.
These institutions are fully subsidized by
the national government, and may be
considered as a corporate body.
CHALLENGES OF SUC
SUCs are confronted by annual
budget cutbacks. As a result,
these schools impose enrolment
quotas and increase fees. In recent
years, tuition and miscellaneous
fees in the SUCs have seen huge
increases.
PHILIPPINE ASSOCIATION OF SUC
The Philippine Association of State
Universities and Colleges (PASUC) is an
association of public tertiary school level
institutions in the Philippines. These
comprises all 102 State Universities and
Colleges (SUC) which are under the
Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

Filipino businessman and lawyer
from Cagayan. Bello was a
