• Usually unsigned
• Meant to influence public opinion, promote critical
thinking, and sometimes cause people to take action

• Explain and interpret news;


• Put it on its proper perspective;
• Analyze;
• Draw conclusions from that analysis;
• Persuade readers to follow a course of action
