The operation of the thermomagnetic switch is based on the magnetic field and
heat, two effects caused by the circulation of electric current in any conductor.
Based on this, the device is constituted by an electromagnet that responds to
magnetic variations and a bimetallic sheet as a temperature sensor.
When the current passes through the electromagnet, a force is produced that
generates an electromagnetic field that strongly attracts a nucleus; when the field
acquires sufficient force to drag the complete nucleus, the circuit is opened.
In other words, the mechanical effect of the electromagnet opens the circuit only if
it is the case that the intensity of the electrical energy exceeds a certain limit,
however, these maximum values can be modified at any time, which is why
manufacturers have developed different electromagnetic switches that stop the
current when it exceeds different values.
