1. INTRODUCTION :-

Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) have been used predominantly in

residential air conditioners and heat pumps for the past few decades,
and its sales volume has been the largest among various refrigerants.
Although the ozone-depleting potentials of HCFCs are not as high as
those of other chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), they still containozone-
depleting chlorine; hence, the parties to the Montreal protocol decided
to phase out HCFCs eventually and the regulation for the HCFC
production begun from 1996 in the developed countries .

2.Literature Review :-

The applications of new refrigerants such as HCs and mixtures to replace conventional
refrigerants in domestic refrigerators have been studied by a number of researchers.
Jung et al. [7] examined the performance of a propane/isobutene mixture for domestic
refrigerators. They have found in their study that the thermodynamic cycle analysis of
propane/isobutane mixture in the composition range of 0.2–0.6 mass fraction of propane
yielded an increase in the coefficient of performance (COP) of up to 2.3% ascompared
with CFC12. In conclusion of their study, the proposed HC mixture seemed to be an
appropriate long-term candidate to replace CFC12/HFC134a.

3.Objectives :-

 The objective of an HVAC system is to ensure that an indoor environment is both

safe and comfortable for humans. Safety here mainly concerns the Indoor Air
Quality or IAQ, meaning that the indoor air should have enough oxygen and be
free of noxious gases. Comfort of course is based on human perception, which can
vary within bounds. ASHRAE (the American Society of Heating, Refridgeration, and
Air-conditioning Engineers), defines comfortable air quality as one “with which a
substantial majority (80% or more) of the people exposed do not express
dissatisfaction.”

Although there are many ways in which to make an indoor space in a hot climate
comfortable, we shall focus on the most common type of air-conditioning (AC)
system found in buildings today. Before we discuss that, a quick word. Most AC
systems work on one principle: when a fluid is compressed, it “throws away” the
heat it contains, and when it expands, it absorbs heat from its
surroundings. Therefore by alternately compressing and releasing a fluid, one can
make it “absorb” heat from inside a building and release it outside.
