CHRIST’S SERMON:
“SALT OF THE EARTH AND LIGHT OF THE WORLD”
“You are like salt for all mankind. But if salt loses its saltiness, there is no way
to make it salty again. It has become worthless, so it is thrown out and people
trample on it.
“You are like light of the whole world. A city built on hill cannot be hid.
“No one lights a lamp and puts it under a bowl; instead he puts it on the
lampstand, where it gives light for everyone in the house.
“In the same way your light must shine before people, so that they will see the
good things you do and praise your Father in Heaven.”
ELEMENTS OF SERMON

A SERMON is a speech given by a preacher in a house of


worship.
Qualities:
 It is persuasive
 It appeals to emotions of listeners
 It addresses the needs of listeners
 It calls for listeners to take action
SEQUENCE SIGNALS OR CONNECTORS

Conjunction
 Is a word used to connect other words or group of words.
Three Types of Conjunctions:
1. Coordinating Conjunction
 Connects similar kinds or group of words
and, but, for, nor, or, so, yet
Example: I bought bow and arrow at the shop.
We tried, but we failed.
They were stubborn, so they remained wicked men.
SEQUENCE SIGNALS OR CONNECTORS

2. Correlative Conjunction
 Connects similar words or group of words, but always comes in pairs.
Both… and; neither… nor; whether… or; either… or; not only… but also
Examples:

1. According to Edwards, both moral strictness and church attendance will reduce God’s
wrath.
2. Either the arrow will be released, or it will not.
3. The storm, neither furious nor dreadful, can be released.

3. Subordinating Conjunctions
 Connects two ideas, making one more important than the other.
