APPLE’S TRUE DEPTH CAMERA SYSTEM

1
WHY TRUE DEPTH CAMERA SYSTEM ?

• To provide maximum security.

• Way to a futuristic security option.

• FACE – ID.

TRUE DEPTH CAMERA SYSTEM

3
4
COMPONENTS BREAKDOWN :

• Proximity and ambient light sensor

• Flood Illuminator

• Dot Projector

• Infrared Camera

5
PROXIMITY AND AMBIENT LIGHT SENSOR
• Proximity sensors is used here to detect the distance of the face from the
true depth camera system. But it is also used to put the display off
whenever mobile not in the use, when we call , when we put the mobile in
pocket.
• Ambient light sensor is used to sense the amount of light present and
accordingly insist the flood illuminator to provide the required amount of
infrared light.

6
FLOOD ILLUMINATOR : INFRARED CAMERA :

7
FLOOD ILLUMINATOR AND INRARED CAMERA

• The flood illuminator produces infrared (IR) light to illuminate your

face.
• The Infrared camera is a device that forms a heat zone image
using infrared radiation, similar to a common camera that forms an
image using visible light. The infrared camera captures images of the dot
pattern and the IR light (a heat signature) that's been reflected back from
your face.

DOT PROJECTOR

9
THE PROCESS :

• This is done by projecting over 30,000 invisible dots on your face that allows the phone
to create a very detailed facial map.
• The Flood illuminator and infrared combo takes a 3D mapped image. This whole system
is called the TrueDepth camera.
• The data crunching is done in the A11 Bionic chip that powers the iPhone X, which also
houses the Secure Enclave that has your face ID data stored.
• It uses a Neural engine which can process 600B operations per second for the machine
learning process.
