Geology of Leti Island
- Divided into 4 stratigraphic unit (UCSS, LM,
FAO, Neogene-Quarternary)
- UCSS unmetamorphosed and weakly
metamorphosed.
- UCSS is gently folded to form foreland fold-
thrust belt along axis parallel to WNW-ESE.
- LM (assemblages of Barrovian-type
metamorphism)
- FAO (Kioe peridotite) bounded by fault contact
with underlying of LM members

Tectonic Evolution of Leti Island

(Kadarusman dkk., 2010) (Kaneko et al, 2007)

Age of Metamorphism
• K–Ar dating on muscovite yielded 11.0±0.3 Ma from sample LK-30 (pelitic schist, kyanite
zone rock).
• Younger than those from West Timor, where Stanley and Harris (2009) reported Lu–Hf
isochron age of garnet in pelitic schist, which gave 45–46±3Ma.
Conclusion
• Na-amphibole and high-P/T assemblages in the Leti metamorphic rocks.

• Progressive facies series from BS/GS transition through EA to AM facies.

• BS/GS transition schists indicate decompression from 5.5–7 kbar to <4 kbar within the temperature
range 300–400 °C. P–T estimates of the EA and AM units are 460–520 °C and P=6.3–7.6 kbar and
580–626 °C at pressures of 9.7–10.3 kbar, respectively.

• Three stages of metamorphism – an early LT pre-peak stage, the main peak P–T stage and a late
retrograde stage – can be distinguished in blueschists and epidote–amphibolites.

• The three stage clockwise P–T path recorded by Leti metamorphic rocks can be tentatively
correlated with their tectonic evolution in the Timor–Tanimbar orogenic zone.
