• Diversity in novels being read in class (ex. Alan Gratz’s “Refugee”)
• Global people / events learnt in class (ex. Mohandas K. Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr.)
• Using online videos, movies, websites that promote globalism/connectedness (ex.Youtube

ALLOWING THEM THE FREEDOM TO…

• Make mistakes
• Learn from mistakes (to avoid doing them again)
• Take risks
• Incorporating whatever is easiest for them into their learning (ex. an interest in sports)
• Ask questions (no such this as a bad question)
• Know their thoughts/opinions are valid and valuable
• Be themselves while adding to the classroom community as a whole
GIVING THEM…

• Extra time
• Modified/adapted work as needed (ex. working in different groups, partner support)
• Simplified instructions to follow (ex. modelling what to do on document camera,
Whiteboard, etc)
• Whatever they need to be successful (ex. use of different activities – drama, peer
tutoring, do activities where students move around and socialize, etc)!
