COACHEE’S BACKGROUND & ISSUES

• Coachee’s Background
– 40 year old male, married with three kids age
between 5 to 11 year old.
– Works as a document controller at an engineering
consultancy firm since 2006.
• Issues:
1. To persuade his management to accept his proposal.
2. Contemplating whether to pursue a Master Degree
in Intellectual Property Management with a view of
making a career change for better income.
ISSUE 1: PROPOSAL ACCEPTANCE
• Brief overview of the issue:
– Coachee has submitted a proposal to his management
but was not well-received.
– Coachee wanted to persuade his management to
accept his proposal by submitting a new and improved
proposal.
– At the end, the proposal is accepted but postponed
for next year budget.
• Duration of coaching session
– 2 and a half coaching sessions (this is a continuation
of the 30-minutes practice session)

– Coachee is interested in intellectual property field and wanted to
pursue a Master degree program.
– The main objective of the coachee’s intention to continues study is to
obtain better income or to supplement current income.
– After the first coaching session, the coachee decided not to pursue
Master degree program. Other options were explored with short term
patent agent certification program identified as coachee’s priority.
– Coachee’s fact finding on patent agent program revealed that he is not
qualified for the program. Other options were explored.
– At the end, coachee decided to do something related to his expertise
i.e. information services. Thus, decided to explore short courses on
web design, blog design as a tool to provide information service.
