Alexander Hamilton (1755-1804)
was one of the founding fathers.
Hamilton had many
accomplishments, such as being the
first United States secretary of the
treasury.
EARLY LIFE

Born on January 11th, 1755.

Between the ages of 11 and 13,


Alexander started working for a
trading company in ST. Croix.

 Spouse: Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton (1757-1854)

Alexander Hamilton JR., James Alexander

SCHOOL LIFE
 Hamilton’sparents were not married formally, so the
church school denied him an education
 Alexander self-educated himself with the 34 books in
the family library.
 Alexander eventually became formally educated
from a school in Elizabethtown, New Jersey.
 In
1773, Hamilton went to King’s College, which is now
Columbia University.
 In 1776, he left King's College.
MILITARY CAREER

Hamilton was an influential man in United States history


He was a trusted advisor of General George Washington
In 1776, he joined a volunteer militia company in New York,
named the Hearts of Oak, which consisted of other King’s College
students.
Hamilton was Washington’s chief of staff.
SECRETARY OF THE TREASURY
In September 11th, 1789, Alexander
Hamilton was delegated the very first
Secretary of the Treasury by George
Washington. This meant that he was
in charge of the governmental
monetary matters. He stayed in that
position until January, 1795.

THE UNTIMELY DEATH OF
ALEXANDER HAMILTON
Since Hamilton was a federalist and Burr was a
republican, the two decided to end their political battles
with the duel.
 Alexander died the afternoon after the duel against Burr.
 After the duel, Burr was wanted for MURDER
