Statistics on Violence Against Filipino women
(VAW)

◉2004 - number of VAW cases reported to the police


increased sevenfold, from 1,100 in 1996 to 7,383 in 2004
◉2006 - a total of 5,758 VAW cases were reported to the
police
◉2008 - the number of VAW cases reported to the police
rose by 21 percent from the 2007 report
◉ One of the worst forms of violence against women in the
region is human trafficking
Statistics on Rape in the Philippines

◉The Asian Women's Resource Exchange (AWORC)


○794 rapes occurred in the Philippines in the first four months of 1997
○During the first semester of 1999 alone, there were 2,393 children
who fell prey to rape, attempted rape, incest, acts of lasciviousness
and prostitution.
◉As of 2006, Rape continued to be a problem, with most
cases going unreported. During the year, the PNP
reported 685 rape cases
◉The situation continued in 2007, with the number of
reported rape cases increasing to 879.
