WILL AND MIGHT

FOR
PREDICTIONS
“WILL” AND “MIGHT” ARE USED TO MAKE
PREDICCTIONS ABOUT WHAT WE WILL
DO IN THE FUTURE
•Will: It shows that we are sure
•Might: It shows that we are less sure
EXAMPLES OF THE USE OF WILL
USE THE MIGHT IN AFIRMATIVE AND
NEGATIVE SENTENCES
• Estructure:

SUBJECT + MODAL VERB (MIGHT) + INFINITY VERB + COMPLEMENT

EXAMPLE:
+ I might make a pizza tonight, or I might go out to dinner.
- She might not live in London anymore
USE THE MIGHT IN QUESTIONS
• We usually use phrases like “ I thing …., and Do you thing…..? To
introduce predictions when we speak
• To ask about possibilities, another structure is normally used

• Estructure
"Do you thing“+ SUBJECT + MODAL VERB (MIGHT) + INFINITY
VERB + COMPLEMENT + ?
EXAMPLES
• Do you think he will be there?

• Do you think she still lives in London?

• Do you think we’ll see each other before I leave?

• Rare things happen when you combine two auxiliaries like that. In
this case, might + can = might be able to

–He might be able to help you.

–She might be able to come later.
–I might be able to buy it.
• Finally, we should see how to use might in English to
talk about the past. To talk about past possibilities,
use might + have + past participle +
complemented:

–She might have been asleep.

–They might have got lost. They should be back by now.
–He might have misunderstood you.
