Engineering Economy –

Abdulaziz Alomari
Industrial engineering
 The processor is the brain of a computer and actually handles all the queries of the
system, but comprehending the major difference among these processors requires
a lot of brain of ourselves.
 This is kind of obvious that i7 is better than i5 which in turn better than i3
 Within each tier, there are some differences in performance and cost which we
need to spot
 Typically, the Core i3 series has only dual-core processors, while the Core i5 and
Core i7 series have both dual-core and quad-core processors
 Core i3 processors ranging from suggested retail prices of $122 to $149, Core
i5 chips priced from $182 to $242, and Core i7 parts set between $303 and $339.
 Power Consumption is given as follows:
 Considering that System runs for 6 hours a day (0.5$ unit cost)
 I3 : 0.089*6 = 0.534 (per Day) = 16.02 Units of Electricity (M) = 8$ monthly
 I5 : 0.119*6 = 0.714 (per Day) = 21.42 Units of Electricity (M) = 11$ monthly
 I7 : 0.127*6 = 0.762 (per Day) = 22.86 Units of Electricity (M) = 11.5$ monthly
 10% Annual and 0.8% Monthly
 PW(I3) = -130 - 8(P/A,12, 0.8%)/0.1 = -1041
 PW(I5) = -210 – 11(P/A,12, 0.8%)/0.1 = -1462
 PW(I7) = -320 – 11.5(P/A,12, 0.8%)/0.1 = -1620
 Intel Core i3: Normal users. Very Economical choice. For College and High School
Students, Good for browsing the web, using Microsoft Office, making video calls,
and social networking. Not for gamers or professionals or heavy CAD Softwares
 Intel Core i5: Balanced users. Those who want balance between performance and
price. Good for gaming if you buy a G processor or a Q processor with a dedicated
graphics processor for RADON or NVIDIA.
 Intel Core i7: Power users. You multi-task with several windows open at the same
time, you run apps that require a lot of horsepower, higher RAM Required, number
of operations run at the same time
