Gastronomy of France
Many French chefs have earned international recognition for converting French
food into haute cuisine and influencing the gastronomic scene worldwide. Food
in France has become such an integral part of French culture that it was added
to UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage in 2010.
BREAKFAST
In France, breakfast is the least important meal of the day. What they eat mostly is Baguette
bread, then spread butter (du beurre) and / or jam (de la confiture) or Nutella.
French adults usually have some type of coffee for breakfast. However, many of them prefer
coffee with milk, others prefer tea ( le thé ). While children usually drink chocolate milk (du lait
chocolaté) or orange juice. They also usually eat fruits like kiwi
FOOD
Lunch is the most important meal for the French. The best known meals are:
1. Soupe à l’oignon
Cassoulet is a dish of white beans stewed with meat, typically pork or duck, but
also with sausages, goose or lamb. The name of the dish comes from the pot
(casserole) in which it is traditionally baked, which generally has the shape of an
inverted cone to give it a crust shape. This is a rich and abundant meal perfect for
the colder months.
3. Nicoise salad
La Salade niçoise is a typical French salad from the Provence region, which can be
served as a side dish or as a light meal alone. It is usually a combination of lettuce,
fresh tomatoes, hard boiled eggs, tuna (canned or fresh), green beans, olives and
anchovies.
4. Ratatouille
It is a simple dish consisting of a fish soup made from boiling various whole fish.
