French gastronomy is considered one of the most important in the world.

Many French chefs have earned international recognition for converting French
food into haute cuisine and influencing the gastronomic scene worldwide. Food
in France has become such an integral part of French culture that it was added
to UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage in 2010.
BREAKFAST
In France, breakfast is the least important meal of the day. What they eat mostly is Baguette
bread, then spread butter (du beurre) and / or jam (de la confiture) or Nutella.

French adults usually have some type of coffee for breakfast. However, many of them prefer
coffee with milk, others prefer tea ( le thé ). While children usually drink chocolate milk (du lait
chocolaté) or orange juice. They also usually eat fruits like kiwi
FOOD
Lunch is the most important meal for the French. The best known meals are:

1. Soupe à l’oignon

This is a traditional French soup made of


onion and meat broth, usually served with
melted cheese on top. The remarkable
flavor of French onion soup comes from the
caramelization of onions, to which brandy is
sometimes added at the end of the slow
cooking process. The liquid is typically meat
broth, although variations include using only
water, adding milk or thickening it with eggs
or flour.
2. Cassoulet

Cassoulet is a dish of white beans stewed with meat, typically pork or duck, but
also with sausages, goose or lamb. The name of the dish comes from the pot
(casserole) in which it is traditionally baked, which generally has the shape of an
inverted cone to give it a crust shape. This is a rich and abundant meal perfect for
the colder months.
3. Nicoise salad
La Salade niçoise is a typical French salad from the Provence region, which can be
served as a side dish or as a light meal alone. It is usually a combination of lettuce,
fresh tomatoes, hard boiled eggs, tuna (canned or fresh), green beans, olives and
anchovies.
4. Ratatouille

Ratatouille is another internationally recognized French dish, from the


southeastern region of French Provence. It is a recipe for stewed vegetables that
can be served as a side dish. Vegetables are usually cooked first in a pan over high
heat with a small amount of oil, and then baked. The ingredients consist of
tomatoes, garlic, onion, zucchini, eggplant, carrots, peppers, basil, marjoram,
thyme and other green herbs, usually ham and sometimes eggs are added.
5. Bullabesa

It is a simple dish consisting of a fish soup made from boiling various whole fish.
6. Quenelle

It is a French dish similar to sausages or meatballs because of their appearance. It


is a wheat semolina pasta that is mixed with flour, eggs and milk to finally
accompany it with some poultry, veal or fish..
Desserts
1.Crêpes
It is probably one of the most international desserts of French gastronomy. It is
dough made from wheat flour, which is shaped like a disk. Although they are usually
taken as a dessert spread with chocolate fondue, cream or other type of sweet, they
can also be taken with salty ingredients.
2 Macarons
The macaron is a type of cookie of French origin that has acquired worldwide
fame. It is prepared based on egg white, ground almonds, sugar and icing
sugar.
3. Canelés
It includes the following ingredients: eggs, milk, sugar, butter, flour, rum and
vanilla. To achieve the shape that characterizes them, special copper molds are
used for this purpose. Although the traditional molds are made of copper, they
are also made of aluminum or even silicone.
4. Farz
It is a textured cake that is similar to pudding or a consistent flan. The dough is
made with wheat flour, butter, milk, eggs and sugar, although you can also add a
touch of vanilla or rum. Inside, whole raisins or pear pieces are added.
