• Neptune was named after the Roman god of
the Sea.
• Coloration of neptune is blue
• It is only the fourth largest in terms of
diameter
• it is the third largest planet with respect to
mass,

4
• Neptune is the eighth planet from the Sun and last
of the known planets.

• Neptune was discovered by Jean Joseph Le Verrier.

• Neptune is the eighth planet from the Sun and last

of the known planets.
5
•Neptune has the second largest gravity of any
planet

•The orbit path of Neptune is approximately 30

astronomical units (AU) from the Sun.

•Neptune has a storm similar the Great Red Spot on

Jupiter

6
The radius at the poles is 15,125 miles (24,341 km),
slightly smaller than the equatorial radius of 15,388
miles (24,764 km). The average diameter across the
planet is 30,598 miles (49,244 km), almost four times
the diameter of Earth. A trip around Neptune's
equator would cover 96,129 miles (154,705 km)
7
ROTATION OF NEPTUNE
Rotation of Neptune takes 16 hours, 6 minutes
and 36 seconds to rotate. Neptune isn’t a single
solid object like the terrestrial planets, so
different parts of the planet rotate at different
speeds that are called differential rotation.

8
ROTATION OF NEPTUNE
Neptune orbits away from the Sun than the Earth,
so its orbit takes much longer. Neptune takes
164.79 years to orbit around the Sun. That’s
almost 165 times longer than Earth takes to orbit
the Sun.

9
11
Mean distance from the sun

The Distance between Neptune and the Sun

is 4.5 billion km (about 30.1 astronomical
units (AU)), and it completes an orbit on
average every 164.79 years.

French astronomer and mathematician who specialized in celestial mechanics and is best known for predicting the existence and position
of Neptune using only mathematics. The calculations were made to explain discrepancies with Uranus's orbit and the laws of Kepler and Newton.
Le Verrier sent the coordinates to Johann Gottfried Galle in Berlin, asking him to verify. Galle found Neptune in the same night he received Le Verrier's letter, within 1°
of the predicted position. The discovery of Neptune is widely regarded as a dramatic validation of celestial mechanics, and is one of the most remarkable moments of 19th-century science.
