RESISTOR

Electronics – is a branch of
technology that deals with many
applications.
Resistance – the opposition to the flow
of electrons.
Current – the flow of electrons moving
in a given direction
Resistor color coding - a scheme to
determine the value of resistors by
color bands printed on their bodies as
code.
Tolerance – the fourth color in the 3-
band color coding that indicates the
percentage of deviation from its color
coded value.
Resistor
Resistor is a discrete component that
offers opposition to the flow of current. It
is very common and is the cheapest
electronic components in the market for
so many years. Their features are so
interesting and are very colorful. That’s
why resistors are very popular among
students studying electronics.
STEPS ON HOW TO CALCULATE THE VALUE OF A
 RESISTOR

Position the resistor in such a way that the

tolerance band (Gold, Silver) face to the right.
Read the color bands of the resistor from left to
right.
Change the colors to the coded number by
using the resistor color codes chart.
Determine the tolerance value of the resistor.
Decode the resistor value.
Activity:

Group the students into five (5). Each

group will receive a picture of resistors
Identify the colors and value of the
resistors one by one and record them in
the resistor tabulation form.
Determine the tolerance value of the
resistor.
Write the coded value in the tabulation
form.
