Engine Repair Options
• Dealer exchange
– Fully repaired "like-new" components and engines on the shelf for the
immediate purchase by customers. The customer returns their used
component or 'core' to the dealer. The dealer repairs that core to like-new
condition in their component rebuild center or shop, and places on the shelf
for the next customer.

Engine Repair Options
• Reman Short and Long Blocks
– Factory remanufactured using only Caterpillar genuine parts. Provide
same-as-new performance and long life, blocks are completely
disassembled, cleaned to meet rigid standards and inspected part by part to
ensure they meet Caterpillar's highest quality standards. The individual
components are also upgraded with critical engineering improvements,
resulting in our latest technology - delivering like new performance and long
life. After assembly, all Reman Short & Long blocks are checked and
electronically tested to ensure consistent quality.
• Overhaul kits
– Cat Engine Overhaul Kits offer a value added lower cost option and more
convenience to meet customers' needs throughout the lifecycle of the
engine, that is backed by the Cat standard parts warranty.
• Component repair
– Premium quality parts, controlled manufacturing processes, standard repair
methods and highly trained Dealer technicians mean Cat components can
be repaired for a second life. This offering gives the customer same-as-new
performance, long life, and quick turnaround at a fraction-of-new price.

Engine Repair Options
• Upgrades & Retrofits
– Offer customers parts lists or kits that enable them to take advantage of the
benefits designed into features offered on new machines and engines by
retrofitting to their existing fleets. These products are developed uniquely for
retrofit to a customers existing fleet. Focus is on features and associated
benefits in the key customer sustainability areas of safety, reduced customer
green house gas emissions, increased customer energy efficiency and
increased customer material efficiency.
• Classic Parts
– Caterpillar low cost replacement parts sourced from the aftermarket available
primarily for mechanically governed mid-sized engines. Caterpillar uses our
proprietary knowledge of the original part design & application to validate or
improve our suppliers' products, and to inspect them upon entry to our
distribution network ensuring the best quality products in the will fit category.
Classic parts are guaranteed for form, fit and function but, unlike original
parts, are not endorsed for re-use when a component reaches its next rebuild
interval. This product line is intended as an option to help owners of older,
depreciated equipment maintain lasting product support relationships with
the Caterpillar dealer network.

Drive Train Parts – Frequent Customer Questions
Question: Caterpillar gears are too expensive.
Answer: This may be true if customers are running their components to destruction.
Caterpillar designs their gears to be reused at the time of rebuild by incorporating carefully
designed crowning, heat treatment and surface finishes. With good equipment
maintenance practices, gears are reusable for multiple lives. The extended life and reuse
should be considered when comparing prices in the marketplace.
Question: Caterpillar does not make the bearings they use. Why should I buy them
from the Cat Dealer?
Answer: Caterpillar works with bearing suppliers to develop
specific bearings for Cat machine applications, such as debris
resistant and textured bearings for off-highway trucks. The bearings
from Caterpillar are designed to assure proper alignment and protect
mating parts like gears, shafts and carriers. Typically, Caterpillar
bearing suppliers do not offer bearings with special features through
their traditional aftermarket distribution.

Drive Train Parts – Frequent Customer Questions
Question: Competitive friction discs are considerably less expensive than Caterpillar’s. Why
should I buy them from you?
Answer: Caterpillar uses and matches a variety of friction materials based on application
to meet customer needs and regulatory requirements. As an original equipment
manufacturer, Caterpillar friction materials are field tested in the applications they are used
to meet regulatory requirements. In addition to the material, Caterpillar develops the correct
groove pattern to balance engagement, cooling and durability.

Hydraulic Parts – Frequent Customer Questions
Question: Why pay more at a Cat dealer for a cylinder reseal when I can do it
myself for less?
Answer: Standard Cat dealer reseal service includes light honing in addition to genuine
Cat seals. This relatively quick procedure removes scratches and other minor cylinder bore
damage to improve cylinder performance and ensure you get the full life from new seals.
After honing, cylinders are washed to remove contamination. Reassembled cylinders are
pressure tested to make sure they are free of external and internal leaks.

Ground Engaging Tools – Frequent Customer Questions
Question: The initial price of Cat GET is higher than most of your competition. In
the end, isn’t it just “dumb” wear iron?
Answer: GET can’t be measured by initial cost alone. There are many factors which need
to be considered when analyzing the true value of the GET being purchased. Penetration,
wear life, productivity, and fuel burn are just some of the considerations when determining
the true value of the product.
Question: Why should I pay more when Cat GET doesn’t last as
long as the competitive product?
Answer: First, we need to be sure the same components are being
compared. It’s misleading to measure two products which physically do
not have the same features or design characteristics. Once this has
been established, then discuss the trade-offs required in attempting to
maximize the productivity of the customer’s machine. While life of the
component is a factor, using a product offering which does not wear as
long but yields higher productivity may be the best option.

Answer: Most of our competitors’ oil does not meet Caterpillar’s specifications designed
and engineered specifically for our equipment. It helps to have the best possible
experience with your equipment – including reduced unplanned service costs
and downtime. DEO ULS is particularly unique in that it also protects your
after-treatment components such as your diesel particulate filter and catalyst.
It is also backwards compatible so you can use it on your newest equipment and
existing equipment.
