1.INTRODUCTION

1.1 Self healing concrete

• It also called Bacterial concrete or Bioconcrete.
• Self healing concrete is a concrete in which in which autonomous self healing
introduced in the concrete by the use of bacteria which helps to repair the
cracks by producing calcium carbonate crystals which blocks the micro cracks
and pores in the concrete

1.1.2 Bacteria
• Bacteria are single-celled organisms. Bacteria are single-cell organisms
that are neither plants nor animal.
• Special type of bacteria’s known as Bacillus are used along with calcium
nutrient or known as Calcium Lactate.
Various types of bacteria were used in self healing concrete are:
• Bacillus pasturii
• Bacillus sphaericus
• Escherichia coli
• Bacillus subtilis
• Bacillus cohni
• Bacillus balodurans
• Bacillus pseudofirmus
1.1.3 Mechanism Self healing concrete

• Special type of bacteria Known as Bacillus are used along with calcium
nutrient known Calcium lactate in wet normal concrete.
• When the water comes in contact with the unhydrated calcium in the
concrete, calcium hydroxide is produced by the help of bacteria, which
acts as a catalyst this calcium hydroxide reacts with atmospheric carbon
dioxide and forms limestone and water. This extra water molecule keeps
the reaction going.
1.2 Magnetized Water
• The water is obtained after passing through magnetic field or that the
magnet is placed inside the water or close to it for a period of time which
leads to change in many properties due to exposure to the impact of these
magnetic fields
• Level of magnetization controlled by method used and water purity.
• Because of magnetization constituent molecules or structural element of
aligned in a definite direction by the influence of an external magnetic
field.
• This phenomenon increase the compressive strength and workability.
• Magnetizer is a magnetic device used for the preparation of magnetized
water.
