About
• The Sanskrit term Akshaya Patra, which means the inexhaustible container,
has its origins in India’s famous epic Mahabharata.
• Akshaya Patra’s vision: No child in India shall be deprived of education
because of hunger.
• Akshaya Patra was set up in June 2000 in Bangalore, as a charitable Trust
to offer free mid-day meal program in government schools to promote
literacy among underprivileged children.
• Two types of menu were prepared throughout the country :
• South indian – rice, sambhar (lentil/vegetable stew)/rasam (lentil soup), curd
• North Indian – roti (flat Indian bread), sabji (vegetable gravy), rice

• Master Schedule states which end items are to be produced,
when they are needed and in what quantities.

• A computer-based information system that translates master schedule
requirements for end items into time-phased requirements for
subassemblies, components, and raw materials.
