Having the conversation about Supervising and
Leading.....

Supervision: Creating an environment where our employees can stand

and perform at their very best on a daily basis, to help achieve our
company objectives and our employees’ can achieve their personal
objectives.

Leadership: Creating a vision of where we are going and providing a

beginning road map of how we will get there!
Many of us have gone through the transition......6
Transitioning to the Leadership and Supervision
Role

Developing our relationship with our Team Lead.

Developing our relationship with our Team.

Self Esteem Check!

Why did I want this job?

Making it happen well?

Developing our relationship with our Team Lead.

Our business relationship with our boss is essential.....

Our boss helps us breakdown our workplace into parts and shows how
the parts work and fit together.....
Aware of Perception: “Don't Assume That Others See the Workplace as
You Do"
Navigate Norms: Beware the Unwritten Rules of The Workplace"
To explain our Organizational Culture: “As Fish Are to Water, People Are to
Culture - Unaware“. 1
Developing our relationship with our Team.

Build trust by openly visiting about the transition.

We look forward to the transition and working with our team.

Definite learning curve.

Outline our evolving expectations and ask for the team’s help.

Ask for input and patience.

Self Esteem Check!

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs keeps showing up in our real world.... 5

Why did I want/take this job?

Our duties change and we need to change. Continuous and forever thing.

It takes time and everything seems to happen a once...

The journey of a new team lead takes time, patience, and attention to
detail.

Remember the strengths that got us to this moment in time.

Making it happen well.....

Remember that we do have “baseline skills/talents” as we take on a new

role/responsibilities!
Gather the facts and listen to what others tell you along the way.
Ask for input.
Remember to use our strengths as much as we attempt to improve our
weaknesses.....
Couple other ideas to consider8

Talk about the move – the transition can be awkward!

Maintain the status quo – settle in until we get a handle on things.
Have a feedback process – new leader assimilation checkup.
Understand how you are perceived.
Examine our historical behaviors – what got me here won’t get me there!
Stay teachable – generally leadership is a learned behavior/skill. Stay
Fresh....no matter our age!
As we wrap up .......

Support our new team leads –

Continually visit with/support all team leads

No matter were we are at we are transitioning!

What do we need to do to become even better along the way today.

Couple of actions we can start to take along the way?
