MY MENTOR!!!
• Mrs. Allison Westover
• Works at NASA/ The HUNCH
division, mentoring several
schools across the country
• Design & Prototyping/mentoring
HUNCH students
• Texas A&M Grad
ISM what is that??
ISM is an advanced course in which a student receives
mentorship under a professional in any given field while also
allowing personal research on any given topic. The student
must do all of the following
• Attend and be active at mentor’s job site for three hours a
week
• Record observations and experiences from jobsite in a
journal
• Maintain an online portfolio
• Create a midterm and final presentation with a product and
several artifacts.
My Semester study
The ball clamp foot restraint product of HUNCH
students and the process necessary for it to reach
Flight.

• This restraint is currently in the process of becoming

flight worthy for the ISS, but it is so much more then
just some new design to help the astronauts of the
space station. It represents a process and cycle that
is extremely complicated but necessary for
something as simple as a new product or project to
reach the ISS for use.
• I chose this topic because though it may not be
directly what I want to do in the future, it is a major
part of a process I want to be a part of. Plus it is very
interesting to learn about a side of engineering that
no one really knows about
What is the ball
clamp foot restraint
• How does it work

• How is it implemented

• Why was it developed

Hunch

• What is hunch
• How does it offer
students
opportunities to
work on things
such as the ball
clamp foot
restraint
The Engineering
Process
• What is the engineering
process
• How was the
engineering process
implemented in the ball
clamp foot restraints
Restraints for
ISS
• Why are there
restraints
• How do they work
• how many types of
restraints are
designed to assist
the astronauts

My Research

Nasa requirements for How does HUNCH find a Future uses for BCFR
new designs project for its students
My product
• I plan to give a poster and show the complete process it took for
the ball clamp foot restraint to get from high school project to
flight.
Current event
• My current event was on an article called,
Student Experiments Launched to the ISS on
NG-10, and this article went into great depth
about several projects/experiments that were
created and done by high school students.
Though all of the projects came from different
programs, hunch being one of them it also
included the Ball clamp foot restraint, making
it very informative and useful.
• This article helps tie in with my project because
it offers a little insight into the process
necessary for a high school level project to
reach flight and what were some similar
projects that were able to achieve such a feat.
Conclusion
• I hope to learn more from just the process but what it would mean
to be an engineer for the space industry.
• I have thoroughly enjoyed all of my current meetings with my
mentor and look forward too many more experiences such as
these.
Thank You
