refers to the relationship between a
guest and a host, wherein the host
receives the guest with goodwill,
including the reception and
entertainment of guests, visitors or
strangers.

activities in the world. A basic part and
a result of the larger business
enterprise known as travel and
tourism.

Hospitality Industry
-Hotel, motels, inns, or such businesses that
provides transitional or short-term lodging,
with or without food.
-is a multibillion-dollar industry that depends
on the availability of leisure time, disposable
income, and complete customer
satisfaction. There are four segments of the
hospitality industry: Food and beverages,
Travel and Tourism, lodging, and recreation.

 Hospitality Industry: Four Segments:
 The food and beverage sector which is
professionally known by its initials as F&B is the
largest segment of the hospitality industry.

 The F&B industry is estimated to provide 50% of all


meals eaten in the US today. It comprises of
establishments primarily engaged in preparing
meals, snacks, and beverages for immediate
consumption on and off the premises. When a
restaurant is part of a hotel, services it renders can
enhance the guest experience by providing
excellent food and first-class customer service.

 Hospitality Industry: Four Segments:
 Travel and tourism deal with services related to moving
people from place to place. Buses, cabs, planes, ships,
trains and so on are all part of the travel industry.
 Leisure travel is when a person spends money on
lodging, food, and recreation while taking a vacation trip,
and business travel is when a person travels for work
and spends money on lodging and food. Some people
also spend on recreation while on a business travel.
 The major function of the tourism is to encourage people
to travel. When people travel, either for business or
leisure, they spend money on hospitality.

 Hospitality Industry: Four Segments:
 Lodging means accommodation for a period
or a place to sleep for one or more nights.
Fancy hotels, youth hostels, elder hostels,
campgrounds, motels and other businesses
that provide a place for people to sleep
overnight are all in the lodging industry.
 Lodging businesses markets to other market
segments such as business travelers, leisure
travelers, long-stay travelers, budget travelers,
and special travelers like people working with
the government, airlines, and military.

 Hospitality Industry: Four Segments:
 Recreation is any activity that people do for rest,
relaxation, and enjoyment. The goal of recreation is
to refresh a person's body and mind. Any business
that provides activities for rest, relaxation and
enjoyment, to refresh a person's body and mind is
in the recreation business.
 Entertainment businesses which provide shows
such as movie or theater, attractions which are
places of special interest of visits such as zoos and
museums, spectator sports and participatory sports
are all parts of the recreation business.

TOURISM INDUSTRY
 One of the world’s fastest growing
industries.
 Major source of foreign exchange and a
high employment generator.
 Played a remarkable role in the growth of
economy and social phenomena in the
past century.
 The word “Tourism” is derived from the
word “Tour” which is further derived from
the latin word “Tornus” meaning a tool for
making a circle.
TOURISM INDUSTRY
 Can be defined as the movement of people
from their normal place to another (with an
intention to return) for a minimum period of 24
hours to a maximum of 6 months.
 Tourists:
A person who travels and stays in a
place outside their usual environment for not
more than one consecutive year for leisure,
business, etc and other purposes not related
to the exercise of an activity, compensated
from within the place visited. Eg: NGO
workers, research teams

 Inbound Tourism: This
refers to tourists of foreign
nationals entering a
particular country
 Outbound Tourism: This
refers to the
tourist(citizens) travelling
from the country of their
origin to other foreign
countries.
DOMESTIC TOURISM
 Tourism activity of the people within their
own country.
 Unlike International Tourism, travelling is
easier due to relaxations on travel
documents and mandatory health
checkups and foreign exchanges.
 Travelers face less or no lingual and
cultural related problems.
 Domestic tour packages are cheap as
compared to international tour packages.
IMPORTANCE OF TOURISM

 Tourism and hospitality are inextricably


linked to each other.
 Major revenue earning enterprises in
the world
 Happen to be top employers

 Facilitation of cultural exchange over
various cultural concepts. Local people
can learn their language, art, skill,
culture etc and vice versa.
 Publicity of Nation.
 Rise in economic activities through the
sale of products and services go the
tourists.

REGIONS OF THE WORLD
 The United Nation World Tourism
Organization(UNWTO) has divided the
world into six tourism regions on the
basis of volume of flow of tourists and
concentrations of popular product and
destinations.
 These regions include both rich and poor
countries as well as advanced and under
developed tourism destinations.
 Tourism activity is unevenly distributed in
these regions and is developing at its
own pace.
MODERN TOURISM
 Over the years with modern transportation, paving
the way for globalization, tourism has now become
a global activity

 Tourism, both domestic and international , is


growing at a rapid pace in the Philippines due to the
reductions in both air transportation cost and time
taken for travel, making every part of the world
reachable.

 With the expanding air transport network
worldwide, and depending upon the nature and
purpose of travel, tourists need and demand
certain facilities and services.
 This has given rise to a wide range of commercial
activities which comprises of many sectors and
sub- industries such as; hospitality industry, other
transportation facilities, attractions and
entertainment.
 Other activities related to the tourism industry are
Seasonal festivals, music festivals, trade fairs,
road shows, exhibitions, sports events,
educational events, cultural events, etc
