COOLING WATER SYSTEM
GENERAL OPERATION REQUIREMENTS
• The nominal coolant inlet temperature is 73.89°C to 85°C.
• Under nominal operation condition of the engine, at full loa
d and speed the maximum water pressure drop at the Radia
tor banks is to be less than 13 psi (0.91 Kg/cm²) at the maxi
mum total coolant flow rate of 1025 GPM or 3880 Liter/Min .
• The contractual cooling capacity of the cooling system is warr
anted up to 47°C radiator inlet air temperature.
• The air side pressure drop through the radiators will not ex
ceed 1.40” (35.6 mm) Water column at the maximum air flow
rate.
• The radiators would handle up to 1025GPM (3880LPM) tot
al coolant flow through the radiator tubes.
• The nominal total air flow rate through both radiator banks
is estimated to be about 107x1000 CFM or air velocity 7.6 m
/s.

COOLING WATER SYSTEM
• Coolant:The coolant will be water with borate-nitrate type en
gine coolant corrosion inhibitors. The concentration of chlorid
es and sulfates in untreated cooling water will not exceed 40 p
pm and 100 ppm respectively.
• Nominal Operation Condition:
The following temperature represent the operation Condition o
f the radiator at nominal engine operation conditions at Notch
8:
 Water Temperature into Radiator: 79.4-85°C @
Normal Ambient Tempe
rature
 Water Temperature into Radiator: 95.5-98.8°C @
47°C Ambient
• Coolant water pressure in the Radiator is 50 psi
(3.5 Kg/cm²) maximum.
• The leakage test pressure of the Radiator tubes is 75 psi
(5.3 Kg/cm²).

FORCED AIR SYSTEM
•The bleed air containing dirt is dra
wn through an electrically driven ine
rtial filter blower (dust bin blower a
nd is expelled out of the locomotive

•Ambient air enters the compartmen

t through the carbody inertial filters
that are located on the sides of the H
ood.

•Once the outside air has been cleane

d of larger particles by the inertial fil
ters , a set of bag type filters are used
to provide a final filtration of the air.

•This final filtered air is fed to the tu

rbocharger.
