Q: How will you determine
whether a problem
requires solving for
permutation or the
combination of objects?
A: We need to analyze the given
problem or situation first then after
that we can determine whether that
problem requires solving for
permutation if it's arrangement is in a
definite order, and combination if a
selection is needed from a group of
items without regards to their order.
A: Inside a bucket, there is a 10 pieces
of paper which has a name for each of
it: a name of Aeila's classmates. She
was asked to pick up 5 pieces of paper
which means 5 people who will be
going to be her group mates for their
performance task in Math. In this
particular situation, Aeila needs to
pick up 5 pieces of paper at the same

time which means the order of the
people who will gonna be Aeila's
group mate doesn't matter because
she picked it all up at the same time,
that would be a combination. It will
only be a permutation if Aeila picked
the piece of paper one by one.
Q: What other real-
life applications of
combination can you
think of? Explain.
For example Melissa has been
elected as the president of an
organization which is the Math
club, she needs to select 3
people that can assist her. How
many ways can she select at the
group of 5 people?
Melissa chose Miko, Aeila, and Joshua because
she knew that these people can help her
somehow. In this case, It doesn’t matter whether
she thinks about the chosen people as Miko,
Aeila, and Joshua or Aeila, Miko, and Joshua or
Joshua, Aeila, and Miko. Because in all these
selections, the same three people are still the
group of people Melissa chose. It's an example
of combination because it doesn't matter who's
the first person or the last as long as they are
all chosen then they can still help Melissa.
