INTRODUCTION
 The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector has become a
powerful catalyst
 A secured environment will enhance such environment for the growth of
national development
 ICT refers to any communication device or application, covering radio,
television, mobile and fixed phones, computer and network hardware and
software, satellite systems.
 Nigeria, in recent times, has witnessed an unprecedented level of
insecurity. This has made national security threat to be a major issue for
the government and has prompted huge allocation of the national budget
to security
 ICT is beneficial not only for individuals and businesses, but also to the
country Nigeria.
NIGERIA SECURITY CHALLENGES

National security is important not only to the government, but to the nation as a whole.
however Nigeria's security concerns and threat perceptions emanated from many quarters,
these includes

 extreme Islamic sects like Boko Haram,


 high level of unemployed youths,
 Militia from the oil rich Niger Delta,
 ritual killings,
 the widening economic gap between the poor and the rich,
 influx of illegal migrants from the neighboring countries,
 emergence of political and regional thugs,
 and the collapse of the justice system.
THE CONCEPT OF INSECURITY

Insecurity is the opposite of security.


Insecurity as “the state of fear or anxiety stemming from a concrete or alleged lack of
protection.” It refers to lack or inadequate freedom from danger. It refers to lack or
inadequate freedom from danger.

 Some of the common descriptors of insecurity include:


 want of safety;
 danger; hazard; uncertainty;
 want of confidence; doubtful;
 inadequately guarded or protected;
 lacking stability; troubled;
 lack of protection; and unsafe.

 ICT can enhance National Development in the area of:


 population determination;
 Health;
 Education;
 Governance;
 Agriculture;
 Businesses;
 Management;
 maintenance and control of public utilities.
BENEFITS OF ICT APPLICATION
 Widen the geographic scope of potential markets.
 Increase choice in the market place and provide access to otherwise
unavailable goods and services.
 Offer immediate connectivity – voice data, visual- improving efficiency,
transparency, and accuracy.
 Channel knowledge and information of all kinds.
 Reduce transaction costs and thereby improve productivity.
 Substitute for other, more expensive means of communicating and
transacting, such as physical travel.
 firms using ICT see faster sales growth and higher productivity.

 All ICT participants should focus on carrying out their duties efficiently so as to
enhance enabling environment for ICT
 ICT operators should employed feedback mechanisms by which they can assess their
inputs so as to identify areas of weaknesses and strengths
 Obsolete skills, out-of-touch and old fashion technologies should be abolished and
embraced latest technologies
 Focus should be on effective strategies that can provide on solutions to human,
social, political, health, business problems
 ICT should be engaged more in classrooms activities and not only computer
laboratories
 Sufficient bandwidth higher than 2G, 3G and 4G supported devices should be
introduced so as to enhance faster data transfer
 Genuine and legal use of ICT must be ensured so as to appropriate its advantage in
orders not to stall national development.
 for ICTs to enhance national development, corruption must be dealt with at all
quarters.
