Shortfalls Regarding to Case Study of District Sahiwal

 The value of following Parameters used in case study are assumed base.
i. Expected Discharge
ii. Uniformity of coefficient (sieve analysis procedure not adopted)
iii. Hydraulic Conductivity
iv. Specific capacity
v. Expected Drawdown
 The value of head used for calculation pump power is not correct (total
bore depth is used instead of total head)

NOTE:- The value of discharge is calculated by formula used in training

lecture is almost 6 cusec which is not possible.
Q=AD/T = 12.5*4/8 = 6.5 Cusec
COMMON OBSERVATONS

 Parameters which depend upon sieve analysis are given below.

1) Screen Length
2) Gravel packing
3) Slot Size
4) Screen Diameter

 Above mentioned parameters are difficult to compute due to

following factors
1) Unable to Collect samples of strata for sieve analysis where power
drilling rigs are being used for drilling a bore.
2) Unavailability of sieve analysis instruments.

 Unavailability of recommended slot size filter from local market.

Improvements

 Formula for calculating screen length should be (¾

*Thickness of Aquifer) instead of (1/3 Thickness of Aquifer)
to attain the desired the discharge.
 Formula for calculating Expected Discharge is not practically
true.
 To calculate the pump power dynamic head should be used
instead of total depth of bore.
 Alternate should be found for the calculation of uniformity of
coefficient as it is impossible to adopt sieve analysis where
Power Drilling Rigs are used to drill a bore.
(Standards should be fixed for uniformity of coefficient w.r.t
soil strata.)
