ADVERBS

ACTIVITY:
Find the action words (verbs) and
descriptive words (adjectives) in each
sentence and identify the words that
describe them.
1. John ate his dinner quickly to catch the school
bus.
2. BIHS teachers earnestly motivated their
students to attend their classes on time.
3. The school principal is obviously dismayed
with the behavior of the students during the
program.
4. Miss Sambrano changed her morning class
schedule to afternoon shift hesitantly after
being diagnosed with insomnia.

5. The Grade 9 students cheered loudly after


winning the Nutri Jingle contest.

Based on the activity, will you


describe an adverb?
What is an ADVERB?
An adverb describes a verb, an adjective, and
another adverb.

1. Nico kicks the ball mightily.

2. Catriona Gray is remarkably articulate.


3. She played the violin extremely well.

4. Aiza sent the message early.

5. Jane found the camera outside.


Basically, most adverbs tell
you how, where or when
some thing is done. In other
words, they describe the
manner, place or time of an
action.
Commonly, adverbs are formed from adjectives.

Loud Loudly
Sad Sadly
Beautiful Beautifully
Sweet Sweetly
Most adverbs end in –ly, but not all the time.
Some adjectives end in –ly too.

For Example:
1.Sam was feeling very lonely.
2.She was wearing a lovely dress.
3.It was a very lively party.
APPLICATION:
On your activity notebook, write three
sentences using adverb that modifies a verb,
another one that modifies an adjective, and
the last one which modifies another adverb.
EVALUATION:
Find the adverbs in each sentence.

1. My grandfather walks extremely slowly.


2. Your roommate drives quite fast, doesn't she?
3. We rarely go to the movies on the weekends.
4. I have been a fan of mystery stories since I was
quite young.
5. My brother always picks on me.
Assignment:

1. Sleep early and do not


forget to pray.
2. Read Proverbs 3:6-7.
