NARCOTICS
ILLEGAL
DRUGS
There are many different
kinds of drugs that are
being used illegally.

Some of them are the following:


Cocaine
Inhaled or injected as cocaine hydrochloride
powder; smoked as crack. Harmful Effects -
enhanced self-
confidence, racing pulse,
loss of appetite, agitation,
anxiety and depression.
Dependence, risk of
infection if needles
shared. Overdose may
cause seizure or heart
failure.
Signs of Usage - Nasal
discharge, weight loss,
behavior or personality
change.
ECSTACY
Swallowed as tablets;
occasionally inhaled as powder
or injected in solution.

Harmful Effects - Quickened


pulse, nervous exhaustion,
insomnia, depression, dizziness,
palpitations and paranoia. Risk of
infection if injected with shared
needles. Overdose may cause
seizure or heart failure.

Signs of Usage - Hyperactivity,


dilated pupils, staring or
prominent eyes, bad breath,
mouth ulcers, flushed skin.
MARIJUANA
is extracted from hemp,
a widely cultivated
Asiatic herb.
This has become the campus drug—highschool
& college students are smoking it for its
intoxicating effect.
Harmful Effects - feeling of euphoria,
spinning sensation, mood swings, dry
mouth, hunger, loss of coordination
and sense of time, drowsiness. Panic,
confusion and
paranoia with
large doses.

Signs of Usage –
mood swings,
bloodshot eyes.
Increased
appetite.
Solvent
inhaled as vapors from glues (known as rugby),
lighter fuels and cleaning fluids.

Glue (rugby)-sniffing
has become the
source of addiction

among children
It produces

-Hallucinations
-Euphoria
-Intoxication
-Sexual permissiveness
-Leads to violent behavior
It can do great physical damage.
-Liver

-Kidney
Damage

-Lung
It may result in
-Heart
death.
Methamphetamine
Also known as

SHABU
is a highly addictive drug, whether
injected, snorted or smoked
Even taken in small amounts,
SHABU can cause:

-Increased wakefulness.
-Increased physical activity.
-Decreased appetite.
-Increased respiration.
-Hyperthermia.
-Increased heart rate
and blood pressure.
-Irregular heart beat.
-Cardiovascular collapse.
Other effects of SHABU
Irritability
Prolonged insomnia
Confusion
Anxiety
Tremors
Convulsions
Paranoia
Aggressiveness

Hyperthermia and convulsions can be fatal.

Methamphetamine can also cause irreversible damage to


the blood vessels in the brain, resulting in a stroke.
Long-Term Effects
SHABU use can result in:

Violent behavior
Psychotic behavior
Auditory hallucinations
Mood disturbances
Delusions and paranoia
Homicidal or suicidal thoughts
SHABU
can cause drastic
changes in the

appearance of the
user.
…but a companion
of fools shall be
destroyed.
