A DC motor is an electric motor that runs on
direct current power.
It is a device which converts electrical energy
to mechanical energy.
It works on the fact that a current carrying
conductor placed in a magnetic field
experiences a force which causes it to rotate
with respect to its original position.
Provide excellent speed control
for acceleration and deceleration
Easy to understand design
Simple, cheap drive design
 Servo implies an error sensing feedback control
which is utilized to correct the performance of a
system.
 The servo motor is actually an assembly of four
things: a normal DC motor, a gear reduction unit, a
position-sensing device and a control circuit.
 Servo motors do not rotate constantly. Their
rotation is limited in between the fixed angles.

Advantage:
 High-speed operation is possible.

Disadvantages:
 Not suitable for precision control of
rotation.
 Higher cost.
 Not suitable if you need to prevent
vibration
STEPPER MOTOR:
 Stepper motor is a brushless, synchronous
electric motor that can divide a full rotation
into number of steps.
 Stepper motor’s position can be controlled
accurately without any feedback mechanism.
 The stepper motor uses the theory of
operation for magnets to make the motor
shaft turn a precise distance when a pulse of
electricity is provided.

Advantages:

Excellent response to starting, stopping and

reversing.
Very reliable since there are no contact brushes
in the motor.
A wide range of rotational speeds can be
realized
