project activities to meet the project requirements or
activities to bring projects on time, within budget and
quality standards.

Managing a project typically involves the following:

• Identifying requirements of stakeholders.


• Addressing the various needs, concerns, expectations of the stakeholders in
planning and executing the project.
• Setting up, maintaining and carrying out communications among various
stakeholders to collaborate.
• Managing stakeholders towards meeting project requirements and creating
project deliverables.

• Roads can be constructed with the same material by
same or different teams.
• However each project would be unique due to
different terrain, nature of soil, socio-political
situation, climatic conditions, nature of traffic etc.

• Similarly, house can be built by same material or


builder group.
• But process of construction can vary… for low cost
housing, Mivan technology is found to be cost
effective when built in large scale.

• Developing new product or service


• Driverless cars / autonomous driving vehicles

• Portfolio refers to a collection of project, programs,


sub-program, operations managed as a group to
achieve strategic objectives.

• Programs are grouped within portfolio and are


comprised of sub-programs, projects, individual
assignments that are managed in a coordinated fashion
in support of the portfolio.

• Individual projects that are either within or outside a


program are still considered part of a portfolio.

• Portfolio management refers to centralized


management of one or more portfolio to achieve a
strategic objective.
