Good afternoon all, we are bvoc Tourism and Hospitality 2nd year students.
We are introducing our project “ECO TRIANGLE”.

We are introducing three beautiful destinations, ‘AMMACHIKOTTARAM,

THEKKADY, PANDIKUZHI’. This project is a blend of Heritage tourism, Eco
tourism and Seenic attractions.We focused Kottayam and Idukki districts for
our project.
 About AMMACHI KOTTARAM

Located near Peermade in the Idukki district of Kerala is a small

summer retreat of the wife of the erstwhile Maharaja of Travancore.
Popularly known as ‘Ammachi Kottaram’, the place was opened by J D
Munro. As per the formerly existent matriarchal system in Travancore,
the Maharaja’s sister was the Maharani, and not his wife. Thus the wife,
a non-royal, took the title of ‘Ammachi’.

The entire complex consist of 3 rooms, 2 halls, one visiting room,

Dining hall, Kitchen, store room and 2 secret passages. One secret
passageway is for movement within the palace and the other secret
passageway will take one to the Sree Krishna Temple in Peermade.
 HISTORY OF KUTTIKKANAM
The history of Kuttikkanam dates back to 1750’s. In 16th Centuary the place
was under the rule of Travancore conquered Changanacherry, and
brought the place under his supremacy. At that time Kuttikkanam and
Peermade outside human haunt. It was a CMS Missionary, named Henry
Baker who first discovered the uniqueness of this place and he started
coffee plantation here but later shifted to tea

The Periyar Tiger Reserve, named after the Periyar river, is one of Kerala's
prestigious possessions on the High Ranges of the Western Ghats. Falling in the
Idukki district of Kerala, this forest Reserve surrounds the Periyar Lake, which was
created in 1895 by building a dam across the Periyar river (to divert the water to
Tamil Nadu for irrigation). The forests around the lake were declared as Reserved
Forests in 1899.
The varied habitat in the sanctuary supports a number of species of terrestrial,
aquatic and arboreal animals. Apart from Elephants, other herbivores in the
Reserve are Gaur, Sambar deer, Barking deer, Mouse deer, Nilgiri langur, Bonnet
macaque, Lion-tailed macaque etc Tiger, Leopard, Jungle cat, Wild dog, etc are the
major carnivores seen in the area. Other important animals are Bear, Porcupine,
Jackal, Indian Giant Squirrel, Malabar flying squirrel, Wild boar, small Indian
Civet, Mongoose and the Pangoline.
 PANDIKUZHI

Pandikuzhi, about five km from Kumily, is one of the favourite destinations of visitors
to the Periyar Valley.
Nestled between Chellarkovil and the Tamil Nadu border, it is the starting point of the
Chellarkovil waterfall that falls into the plains of Tamil Nadu. Pandikuzhi is known for
its emerald greenery, gushing brooks, and a huge variety of flora and fauna. The place
is a paradise for Nature photographers and trekkers.
 CLIMATE IN KUTTIKKANAM

The weather is nice and sultry with the lowest temperature being around
70°F and the warmest being a usual 93°F. Albeit a humidity of 67%, marks a
good time to explore the best things to do in kuttikkanam weather in April:
Slightly humid climate with lot of sunshine, that’s Kuttikkanam in the month
of April. In december season its very cool condition.
