 What is Diarrhea?
Diarrhea is defecation with consistency of liquid as much
as 3 times or more in one day ( 24 hour)
Diarrhea is often associated with gastrointestinal
infection , which can be caused by bacteria, viruses and
parasites.
 Investigation for diarrhea cases

Diarrhea is often associated with gastrointestinal infection , which can be

caused by bacteria, viruses and parasites.
The planning diagnostic are laboratory such as :
• CBC (Complete blood count)
• Electrolyte serum ( sodium / potassium / chloride)
• Stool test

And this study will concern how to collect stool sample.

 What is Stool test?

Stool examination is a series of test performed on fecal samples

to help diagnose certain conditions affecting the gastrointestinal
tract.
This condition may include infections (such as from paracites,
viruses or bacteria)
 Procedure collect stool sample

Prosedure collect stool sample :

• Give the container box set (container stool and new handgloves) to the
patient.
• Label the container with your name and date of birth.
• Ask the patient to collect/scoop the stool directly from the buttock in
the toilet
• For baby patient , sample can not be from diaper.
• And make sure to the patient that the stool must be not contaminated
with urine and water of the toilet bowl
• Put the container stool and handgloves into the container box
• Give the box container to the laboratory staff for examination (less than
1 hour).
• Ask the patient to wash their hands.
