• The daughter of the late James Gate who was a very wealthy and a wanted man by many, has

been
left with her father’s money and evil inheritance. To get revenge and what they believe is rightfully
theirs the daughter Ella Gate is now a target by a very powerful ‘gangster’ and his hit man who
were enemies of James Gate.
• The boss has ordered the hit man to get Ella Gate to fall in love with him, making her more
vulnerable and an easier target, once he has achieved this he will be ordered to kill her.
• Ella is now the vulnerable and less superior character in the film and has a great amount of
running away and hiding to do due to being stuck in the crossfire of her late father and his
enemies. Fortunately she allies with a previous employee of her father’s ‘business’, he is known as
Tom Ferris.
• Tom finds it his duty to help Ella and protect her from any danger, however after a great deal of
running away they decide to fight back and seek revenge on the hit man who has truly deceived
Ella.
• After a great deal of action packed getaway scenes, fights, suspense. We end up with Ella’s role
changing from the vulnerable women to extremely superior as she ends up face to face with her ex
lover and potential killer. However Good overcomes evil and she almost plays the roll of a femme-
fatal and eventually succeeds in her revenge, turning the cards around so she kills her potential
killer before he gets the chance to finish the job.
Conventions of

• The film trailer will start off in a state of equilibrium, showing

the romance between Ella Gate and the hit man.
• The rising action is when he is ordered to finally kill her by
his boss.
• The climax is when Ella Gate and Tom Ferris are running from
the hit man to get Ella to safety.
• The falling action is when Ella and Tom put up a fight against
the hit man.
• The dénouement is when Ella Gate will turn on her potential
killer and put herself in a superior position as she kills the hit
man.

• The typical conventions for this type of film during will be shown the climax
scenes where the hit man is on his mission to kill the women will in for example;
cars and if possible explosions, gunshots ect.
• However the good guy (women) should never be written off that easily or even
at all in an action film. She puts up a good fight, camera shots and mise-en-scene
may make her appear vulnerable at the beginning of the film, however as her
role has now changed to attack back we change them.
• Mise-en-scene will also be used to distinguish the genre of film, the males will
wear suits to connote the action genre. Ella will be wearing everyday clothing as
she is sprung upon her potential death whilst she is living her casual everyday
life. She will also be wearing more glamorous feminine clothing to give her more
of a conventional glamorous appeal to male watchers and relate to conventions
of films such as James Bond, where bond girls are portrayed as glamorous. Nun
chucks, toy guns and knives also connote my film is an action/thriller.

• The editing of the film trailer will start slow, this is to build an intense feeling amongst the
audience and connotes the film is also a thriller, as suspense is always long and slow shots.
The music to go along with this will be slow and perhaps dramatic, this will appear to the
audience that there is a clear dilemma. The slow editing and slow music will emphasize the
equilibrium and rising action. The editing will get faster with quicker and sharper shots as
the climax takes place. This shows clearly that the middle of the film is where all the action
takes place. The use of faster music and editing also shows contrast to the slow and longer
editing showing variety and clearly points out the plot of the film. Making it easy for the
audience to catch on to the storyline. The transitions for the editing will also be used to
make the film trailer flow more, for example for slow scenes I may use fading transitions to
go with the soft editing and music, whereas the faster music and editing will require
snappier transitions. The transition in music will also have to blend well and not be cut
bluntly. The use of black and white may be used to show romance, looking at films such as
the wizard of oz the black and white shows another world, whereas in Deception the black
and white world is a different world to what Ella is going to face. Black and white also
appears softer and more romantic therefore will go with the music and long and lingering
shots.

• My initial music ideas after research into action/thriller trailers are to use
slow and dramatic music during the equilibrium and rising action of the film,
this will go with the use of slow editing also. Creating suspense and keeping
my audience interested. For the climax I will use a faster pace music to go
with the faster and snappier editing, this shows many shots going on and
emphasizes the dilemma of the film. For the falling action and dénouement I
shall use a fast pace music to show more variety than just one piece to keep
my audience’s minds focused and captivated in my film trailer. The fast pace
music however will fade into a softer and slower pace at the end, this is
because the end of the trailer is possibly one of the most rememerable and
will gradually slow down at the end to once more build suspense before the
final quick shot which will shock the audience. Sound effects used will
include typical conventional sounds of action/thriller films, such as
explosions, gun shots and heartbeats, creating surprise, thrill and suspense.

• Camera angles will determine how vulnerable the character is, for example I will use low
angle shots looking up at the characters to show their power and superiority. To make a
character appear vulnerable and inferior I will use high angle shots, looking down on the
character. Point of view shots are also effective as it puts our audience in the character’s
position. For example we will run with the camera to create a confused and scared effect as
the camera will move around putting the audience in Ella’s position when she is running
away. We will also put the camera on the dashboard of a car for getaway scenes again
putting the audience in the characters position, making them feel they can relate with the
characters and get the audience more subconsciously attached to the characters. Pan shots
will also be used for establishing shots, making the location clear to audiences by showing a
variety of the location. Getaway scenes will also be pan shots to show the travel in which
they take and to where they are going. Mid shots and close ups will be linked together
during scenes to make the film trailer flow more, close ups will also be used for
conversations along with shot reverse shot, to make it clear who the conversation is
between. Long shots will also be used for the audience to take in the surroundings and
show a variety of shots, they can also show more of what the characters are doing at time,
helping the audience to understand the film trailer.

• The setting of my film will occur in an isolated building which
can appear to perhaps be abandoned, metal fencing
connotes entrapment and creates a sense of no way out for
the vulnerable. Offices will be used for shots of the hit man
and boss planning their revenge. This will be filmed using the
school whilst it is empty in my free time. Isolated buildings
connote both action and thriller as in many thriller films they
are located in isolated places and for many action films they
involve offices and various buildings as they are in urban
areas. Aswell as using urban areas I will be filming in the
woods as this creates the feeling of loss and danger.

• Special effects I am going to use may involve speeding up the time duration
of the car driving off appear faster, to make it more clear it is a getaway
scene. I may also consider using special effects to create explosions to
connote an action/thriller genre and special effects on shots to perhaps
improve them and create a better quality film trailer. Special effects I use may
be used in the editing stages. On my opening credits special effects may be
used to transform images into shots which were not previously in the frame.
• Dialogue used will help the audience to understand the storyline, not much
dialogue is needed but what is included must be short and clear to the
audience so they are aware of what is going on. As I am going to use captions
in my film trailer as they are more appropriate for thriller genres to build
suspense, dialogue will be from the characters in the film. The audience will
be shown short shots of key conversations within the film so they stand out
in emphasize the genre of action and the storyline.
