Caption
is a short piece text consist of
additional information which
available in the pictures /
photos. Ussually it’s located
under the picture itself.
Caption (also known as a cutline)
It is a short piece of text under the
picture (sometime, that is not
obvious) that describes or
explain the picture or video
Captions can consist of a few words of

description, or several sentences. Along with

the title, the head, and section headings,

captions are the most commonly read words

in an article, so they should be succinct and

informative)
Social Function of Caption

The social function of caption is :helping the reader to


understand information that may not be in a photo or
a video

It also used to give further information related to a


picture or simpli just to decorate it to look better

Message in caption is words that


someone wants to send to the readers or viewers

A good caption is caption that has positive value to


the readers or viewers

Identification Bar : The caption only mention who is (


the subject) in the picture

Cut line : Who are the subjects in the picture / photos


and what activity they do

Summary : Full explanation of who the subject is, doing


what activity, when of detail time, where the location
detail and why it is happened

Expanded : Longer version of summary caption;


explanation of who the subject is, doing what activity,

how it is happened and quote
Types of Caption
 Quote : consist of a quote or someone’s words that
explain doing what , when, where why, how by the who
of the photo (which has been quoted related to picture
or photos)
 Group Identification : a listing of everyone in a group
photo ( when subjects are more than one)
 Montage Caption : In a photo montage, photos are
numbered and captioned or cutlined according to space
