Topic: over head water tanks
INTRODUCTION

Overhead water tank is mixing of

three word
 Overhead means above the head
 Water and

 Tank means which collect or

store liquid.
By this we understand that a water
tank above the ground at some
particular height.
GENERAL
INFORMATION
In a world where a child dies every 15 seconds from diseases
associated with lack of access to safe drinking water, inadequate
sanitation and poor hygiene, there is an urgent need to attend to this
problem . In the last 60 years they have contributed enormously to
India's economy, yet they are the most neglected people in not
having the basic needs of life. This has led to migration from rural
areas to urban areas and an increase in urban slums. In general safe
drinking water is not available to most of the rural population. The
purpose of providing reinforced concrete water tanks is simply to
provide the most basic daily needs to the villagers. To keep the
electoral promise of “Safe Drinking Water for All”, a scheme
financed by the World Bank . That’s why we make overhead water
tanks to supply water to the peoples.
Why we need overhead water
tanks??????

 These tanks are usually used for storing

water for human consumption .
 A water tank provides drinking water ,
irrigation .
 These are also used for the firer
suppression , agriculture and
livestock .
.
What is the role of overhead
water tank in water supply

Role of overhead water tank is at the last of the process.

Firstly, they collect the water by some sources of water
(river , dam , ground water) and purify it by the different
process of purification.
Now that water is send through the pipe lines to cwr and
then by pumping to overhead water tank to collect the
water into it and then supply the water to the houses in
the particular areas.
 Main role to collect the purify water in to it and supply it.
Why we did not supply water from
cwr but from overhead water
tanks?
We did not supply water direct from cwr to the
houses because we have to supply water at great
pressure only because of pressure water can reach at
some height to the houses but in case of cwr it can
not done without pumping but in overhead tank it
is because of gravity we did not need pumping . We
can supply water at any time weather the electricity
is available or not .
REQUIREMENT FOR
OVERHEAD WATER TANK

 Man power (labour).

 Concrete .
 Stone , steel (stainless).
 Fiberglass.
 Plastics (Polyethylene , polypropylene).
 Pumps (to supply water from ground to level
of tank),etc.
GENERAL PARAMETER FOR
DESIGNING THE OVEHEAD TANKS

 Location of water tanks.

 Volume of water tank will need to hold.
 Temperature of area where water will be stored.
 Pressure requirements.
 Wind and Earthquake design considerations
allow water tanks to survive seismic and high
wind events.
