 The goal of this literature review is to determine the
correlation of the Myer Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)
to the academic performance of the University of the
REVIEW OF Philippines Rural Highschool (UPRHS) students.
There have been plenty of studies researching about
RELATED the non - cognitive factors affecting the performance
of students. We will be comparing the methodology
LITERATURE of our research to others and determine the
differences in results.
Factors Affecting Academic Performance
In a study titled “Factors Affecting the
Academic Performance of College
Students”, the researchers analyzed
the relationship of study habits,
personality traits, personal interest,
teaching skills of faculties, distraction,
and family environment to the
academic performance of college
students studying in Gurugram. To

those factors, they used Multiple
Regression Analysis, wherein the
researchers introduced a variable
'gender.' The researchers discovered
that while female students tend to have
a higher academic achievement
compared to males, the previously
mentioned factors played a significant
role in determining one's academic.
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)

 There exist many ways to assess one’s personality such as

the Hexaco Personality Inventory, and the Holtzman
Inkblot Technique, but the most commonly used
personality assessment test is the MBTI, developed by
Katherine Briggs and her daughter Isabel Myers.
 In a study by Charles K. Coe titled “The MBTI: Potential
Uses and Misuses in Personnel Administration”, it is said
that MBTI is a useful instrument used for team building
strengthening communications, decision making, and for
diagnosing organizational dysfunctions. Although it has a
lot of potential uses, it is also not that reliable since it ends
up being used as a stereotype causing unequal
treatment of current and future employees.
Conclusion

 The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator consists of eight

components that can be combined to make a
total of sixteen different personalities. And while
studies relating a person’s personality to their
academic performance already exist, there are
only few papers looking at how a single
component could result in a difference in an
individual’s academic achievement.s
