What is a Speech Style?
Speech style
is “the way in which
something is said, done, expressed, or
performed,” and it corresponds to
specific speech contexts.
Intimate style/conversations

place between persons of close
alliances/relationships like
married couples, lovers, and
family members.
Casual style/conversation
◦Casual style/conversations
typically
take place between classmates,
friends, or co-workers.
Consultative style/conversation

Formal style/conversations
◦Formal style/conversations are prepared in
advance and follow strict rules. It’s the
speakers choice on how he or she will
deliver his or her speech. The use of humor
in the some parts of the speech is okay.
Frozen style/conversations
◦Frozen style/conversations follows stricter rules in
wordings, content, and format. They may
not be changed as they are permanently
inscribed in document, in short, frozen
style/conversations can’t be altered.
