Research into short films

Research
• Aim: To see which age group is most popular with watching
short films and their favourite genre.
• Back-up research:
• Researched short films onto YouTube and BBC website
• BBC- Drama (111), Animation (73), Comedy (70)
• YouTube- Main genre was comedy.
• YouTube’s main target audience is people aged from 14-25
• BBC’s main target audience is people aged from 25 and over
• As a result comedy is favoured more by a younger generation

• 7 out of 10 students do not watch short films


• 3 out of 10 students do watch short films
• 2 out of 10 students would not watch short
films, even if more comedy was involved
• 8 out of 10 students would watch short films if
more comedy was involved.

• “There’s no advertisement for short films, so
I’ve never heard them.”
• “Because their way too short, so there’s no
point of even watching them.”
• “They’re too short and they don’t have
enough detail, so I don’t understand them.”
Conclusion
• More successful with the younger audience if
comedy involved
• Not enough detail
• Include hints on the dialogue that tells
audience the characters relationship

• 2/ 10 said that they are aware of short films but
most t.hem being foreign films. ( French and
Spanish)
• 1 female aged 56- liked short animated films
• The 18 to 20 aged were not aware of short films
as they stated that they are not advertised and
never heard of them

• 1 male did watch short films quite frequently and was


aware of the festival during October.
• However, 9/10 did not know about the festival.
• Most middle aged males- Favoured the genre Drama/
Action
• Most Females- Favoured Comedy and Drama
• Finally, when asked young people if more comedy
short films were produced and advertised would it be
more likely for them to watch short films all of them
said they would.

Conclusion
• aged 25 and under- not aware of short films- just as we
expected
• Argued that if they were more advertised and
accessible they would watch them
• majority of people aged 26 and over were also not
aware of short films
• All people aged 25 and under would watch short films
if more comedy was involved.
• This supports our aim and we are now sure that we will
have a successful audience
