Region 3

Central Luzon
Central Luzon or known as Region 3, was created to
organize the 7 provinces of the vast central plain of the
island of Luzon (the largest island), for administrative
convenience. The region contains the largest in the country
and produces most of the country’s rice supply, earning itself
the nickname “Rice Granary of the Philippines”. Its provinces
are Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac,
and Zambales.
• The cities that make up and contribute to Central Luzon’s
economy are:

• 4. San Jose del Monte City
• 5. Cabanatuan City

Aurora Province
POLITICAL DIVISION
The Province of Aurora is the 73rd province of the Philippines and the
youngest among the seven (7) provinces of Central Luzon. It has eight (8)
municipalities with a total of 151 barangays divided into three (3) development
zones, i.e. Northern Zone (Dilasag, Casiguran, Dinalungan); Central Zone (Baler,
Dipaculao, Ma. Aurora and San Luis ); and Southern Zone (Dingalan).
LANGUAGE
Majority of the people of Aurora speak Tagalog and a few speak Ilocano.
LIVELIHOOD
Agriculture is still the primary industry in the province. The sector
provides income to more than half of the provincial population with the production
of major crops like rice, coffee, coconut, banana, corn, root crops, citrus fruits,
abaca and peanuts.
Forestry is another important industry making up to 74% of Aurora’s
overall land area which could be categorized as woodlands.
Fishing is a main occupation among locals in eight coastline municipalities
like many other small provinces and towns in the Philippines . Fishing is a way of life
and provides a much needed income to Filipino families living along the coast.

Diguisit Rock Formation

Baler might be better known for its waves, but it also has
beaches with unique features such as Diguisit Beach. The rock
formations and islets, known as Aniao (also Anyao) Rock
Formations and Lukso-lukso Islets or simply Diguisit Islets,
nestled along the shore of Diguisit Beach. These rock formations
are just some of the reasons that make Baler one of the
best road trip destinations in Luzon.

Baler Hanging Bridge

The hanging bridge is a steel-cable foot


bridge over the moss-green waters of the Tibag-
Sabang River. This river empties into Baler Bay
at a point just to the south of Sabang Beach.
Baler Catholic Church

This historic church was originally built in 1611 and


more commonly known as the major site of the Siege
of Baler which happened back in 1898 to 1899.
During the 1896 Philippine revolution, Filipino rebels
joined american forces against spanish rulers. Back then ,
the town of Baler was stationed by spanish military forces
headed by Captain Enrique de las Morenas y Fossi. He led to
strengthen and fortify the church compound in Baler’s town
against any possible attack . At that time , the church was the
only stone building in town.

Museum de Baler

This museum displays artifacts and paintings about the


History of Aurora, exhibits on the ethnic groups
Dumagat and Ilongot, and photos and memorabilia
of native son Manuel L. Quezon, second Philippine
President. There is a section regarding the Siege of
Baler, with some film props from the local film “Baler”.
Bataan Province
POLITICAL SUBDIVISION
Bataan consists of one city, eleven municipalities and 238 barangays.
This province is classified as a second class province and has two congressional
districts. The City of Balanga, the provincial capital is about 124 kilometers
from Manila.

LANGUAGE
Tagalog is the chief language constituting 86 percent of the total
population of the province of Bataan. Pampango came after with ten percent
and the rest speaks Ilocano. English is utilized mainly as the means of
bargaining in business.

LIVELIHOOD
This province is a major producer of banana, mango and palay.
Brooms, ropes and shell craft are some of the home industries. Tinapa is also
one of the livelihood products of the coastal towns in Bataan.
