it use to tells about something happen in the
future; promise, prediction, plan, and effect of
something.

The Pattern of Present Future Tense

(+) S + Will /Shall + V + adverb of time

( -) S + will/shall + not + V + adverb of time

(?) will/shall + S + V + adverb of time

 Expressing Future time (forms with be going to) :


( +) S + be going to + V + adverb of time

( -) S + be + not + going to + V + adverb of time

(?) be + S + going to + V + adverb of time


When we use will and be going to form

1. Be going to and will are use to prediction what happen in the


future, but it have a different way to use.

- be going to
to predict an event that happen in the future with the
evidence that we can see it.
example :
tom : peter, your wife is pregnant, isn’t she ?
peter : yes. Her pregnancy is already seven months old.
tom : oh, she is going to give birth soon.
- Will
- To predict an event that happen in the future with an
opinion, or idea speaker.
Example :
Peter : is Laura here ?
Tom : No. but I’m sure she will be here soon.
Simple future > will + verb and be going to + verb

Willingness (will + verb)


The phone is ringing. I’ll get it! (at the present moment)
i will help you move tomorrow.(promise/offer).
He won’t tell me his age. (refusal)

Plan or intention (be going to + verb)


I’m going to drive to work tomorrow.
We are going to the football game on Sunday.

Future fact (will + verb)


The sun will rise tomorrow at 7.00 a.m.
The sun will set at 8.00 p.m. tonight.

Prediction
I think I will get a raise this year.(opinion : often use will)
Look at those clouds. It’s going to rain! (evidence : often use “be going to”)
 be going to and will are used to express future time.

“Going to” is used to express a preconceived plan

e.g. : I bought some wood because I am going to build a bookcase


for my apartment. ( the speaker is planning to build a bookcase).

 “will” is used to express a plan spontaneously when the


speaker say/thought.

e.g. this chair is too heavy for you to carry alone I’ll help you.
»» I bought some wood because I am going to build a bookcase for my
apartment.

From the sentence above it’s mean that 1. the speaker made a plan before the
moment of speaking, 2. the speaker plans to build a bookcase.

»» This chair is too heavy for you to carry alone I’ll help you.

From the sentence above, the speaker use will not be going to is used to express a
decision the speaker makes at the moment of speaking. The speaker decides to help
at the immediate present moment.
TALKING ABOUT THE FUTURE- WHEN TO USE WILL

WE USE WILL TO TALK ABOUT THE FUTURE :


1. WHEN WE MAKE A PREDICTIONS, E.G. IT WILL BE A NICE DAY TOMORROW

2. TO MEAN WANT TO OR BE WILLING TO :


E.G. I HOPE YOU WILL COME TO MY PARTY

3. TO MAKE OFFRES AND PROMISSES, E.G I’LL SEE YOU TOMORROW

4. TO TALK ABOUT OFFRES AND PROMISES. E.G. TIM WILL BE AT THE MEETING
TALKING ABOUT THE FUTURE BE + GOING TO

WE USE (BE) GOING TO :

1. TO TALK ABOUT PLANS AND INTENTIONS, E.G I’M GOING TO DRIVE TO WORK
TODAY. OR THEY ARE GOING TO MOVE TO LONDON.

2. WHEN WE CAN SEE THAT SOMETHING IS LIKELY TO HAPPEN. E.G BE CAREFULL


YOU’RE GOING TO FALL OR LOOK AT THOSE BLACK CLOUDS. I THINK IT IS GOING
TO RAIN.
adverb of time :
- Tomorrow
- Next week
- Next month
- The day after tomorrow
- The follow day
- This year
- Later
- This night, etc.
