• Filipino architect, artist and
interior designer
• Was described by his peers and
contemporaries as “Poet of
Space”
• Known for his use of concrete,
floating volume (the duality of
light and heavy, bouyant and
massive) and simplistic design
in his various projects
• Proclaimed as a National Artist
of the Philippines for
Architecture in 1990 by Former
President Corazon Aquino
Early Life
• “Lindy”
• Born August 15, 1928 in Silay
City, Negros Occidental
• Grandson of the first
governor of the province
• Married to Cecilia Yulo
• Had two children, one of
whom is also an architect
Education
• Studied at the De La Salle
Brothers in 1935
• Studied Pre-Law in Manila
before shifting to a Bachelors
Degree in Music at UST
• Although he is a talented
pianist, he later shifted to
Architecture
• Became an avid collector and
was fond of modern painting
and Chinese ceramics

• 75 residences and 88
buildings
• Including:
 11 churches and chapels
 23 public buildings
 48 commercial buildings
 6 major hotels
 An airport terminal building
