confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. NASU Ps 24:3-4 3 Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? And who may stand in His holy place? 4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood And has not sworn deceitfully. NASU WHAT DID THE BLOOD OF JESUS DO FOR US? I. WE ARE REDEEMED BY THE BLOOD (FREEDOM) 1 Peter 1:18-20 18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. NIV I. WE ARE REDEEMED BY THE BLOOD (FREEDOM) Eph 1:7-8 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace NIV II. WE ARE ATONED FOR BY THE BLOOD (RECONCILIATION) Meaning of Atonement 1. Reparation for a wrong or injury 2. Covering for sin 3. Appeasement 4. Reconciliation Rom 5:9-11 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. NASU ATONEMENT = AT ONE MENT Rom 3:25a 25 God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. NIV 1 John 2:2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. NIV III. WE ARE PURIFIED BY THE BLOOD (SANCTIFICATION) Heb 9:22 2 In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. NIV 1 John 1:7-10 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.
